Project notes
What the archive shows.
720 square feet, sun and shade.
Ben built 720 square feet of outdoor space, half open to the sun and half under roof. The family picks the weather they want without leaving the deck.
The floor is TimberTech Vintage Collection PVC, 45 by 16, framed with RDI clay vinyl railing and structural posts. PVC holds its color and sheds water, so the deck stays low-maintenance for years.
An open-gable cathedral roof.
One end sits under a 19 by 16 open-gable roof with a cathedral ceiling. Ben wrapped every beam and post in composite clay PVC trim and post wraps, so there is no bare wood to paint or seal.
Recessed lights and a ceiling fan run under the peak, and the open gable lets heat rise out on hot days.
Stairs and framing built to last.
Ben glued and pocket-screwed every stair tread, and V-grooved and heat-bent each riser for a clean finished edge. No exposed fasteners on the steps.
Underneath, the frame runs 2x12 joists on 12-inch centers. It is built like a tank and set up for years of maintenance-free use.
